Our commitment to quality
The Marine Biotoxins Laboratory of the Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition (AESAN), designated by the European Commission as the European Union Reference Laboratory for Marine Biotoxins (EURLMB), carries out its activities under the accreditation granted by the Spanish National Accreditation Body (ENAC). The laboratory is accredited in accordance with ISO/IEC 17025, "General requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories", for its testing activities, and ISO/IEC 17043, "Conformity assessment - General requirements for the competence of proficiency testing providers", for the organisation of proficiency testing schemes.
To this end, the laboratory has established and maintains a Quality Management System based on these international standards and supported by management's commitment to scientific excellence, good professional practice, impartiality and continual improvement.
The general objectives of this system are:
To comply with the requirements established in Regulation (EU) 2017/625 and the international standards applicable to the activities carried out by the laboratory.
To establish, implement and continually improve the activities described in the Quality Management System, ensuring the delivery of reliable, technically valid and high-quality results and services.
To demonstrate and maintain the technical competence of the laboratory through accreditation by a recognised Accreditation Body, both for its testing activities (ISO/IEC 17025) and for the organisation of proficiency testing schemes (ISO/IEC 17043).
To provide high-quality proficiency testing schemes that enable laboratories to assess and improve their analytical performance, contributing to the harmonisation, comparability and reliability of analytical results.
To promote a culture of quality, scientific excellence and continual improvement across all laboratory activities, ensuring that the services provided meet the needs of competent authorities, participating laboratories and other interested parties.
