AESAN ACTIVITIES AS THE EFSA FOCAL POINT IN SPAIN

AESAN’s work as the EFSA Focal Point in Spain is currently governed by a Framework Cooperation Agreement for the period 2023–2027, signed by both organisations.

Under this Agreement, the activities carried out by EFSA Focal Points fall into two categories: core activities and tailor-made activities. These activities are organised around five main areas of work:

  • Knowledge and information management and support for scientific output
  • Engagement, collaboration and partnership
  • Capacity building
  • Data
  • Risk communication

Core activities

Core activities are common to all EFSA Focal Points and provide technical support to the work of EFSA’s Advisory Forum.

They act as a key link between national organisations and experts, EU Member States and EFSA, supporting risk assessment activities and enabling the Authority and Member States to exchange views and access input from highly qualified experts.

Tailor-made activities

Tailor-made activities address specific priorities proposed by EU Member States and/or EFSA. They are aligned with EFSA’s mandate and strategy, deliver short- and medium-term benefits, support the establishment of long-term partnerships and contribute to preparedness for future risk assessment work.

EFSA has established mechanisms that allow Member States to request tailor-made activities based on national needs and topics of interest both to the Member States and to EFSA. Following assessment, these activities may receive dedicated funding.
