Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition
As an autonomous entity attached to the Ministry of Social Rights, Consumer Affairs and the 2030 Agenda, the Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition (AESAN) is responsible for ensuring safe, healthy and sustainable food for the whole of society, as well as for acting as a national centre of excellence in the assessment, management and communication of food risks, particularly in crisis or emergency situations.
Furthermore, AESAN acts as the liaison with EFSA and other international bodies and coordinates its two main laboratories: the National Food Centre (CNA) and the Marine Biotoxins Laboratory (LBM), both of which are reference laboratories – the CNA at national level and the LBM at European level.

Food alerts
The main aim of issuing a food safety alert is to inform the public whether a product that has been on sale poses a serious and immediate risk to health, and, if they have bought it and have it at home, to prevent it from being consumed.
Generally speaking, the aim is to ensure that the products covered by the alert are withdrawn from sale.
