What we do
In accordance with Article 94 of Regulation (EU) 2017/625 of the European Parliament and of the Council, of 15 March 2017, we contribute to the improvement and harmonization of analytical methods to be used by official control laboratories for the analysis of marine biotoxins.
To fulfill the tasks required by legislation for European Union Reference Laboratories, the EURLMB establishes a multi-year work program, which is first approved by the European Commission. The objectives of this work program are:
Ensure the availability and use of appropriate analytical methods, as follows:
- Provide guidance and up-to-date information on methods for the detection and quantification of marine biotoxins to EU NRLs
- Develop and improve methods for the analysis and control of marine biotoxins
- Proficiency testing for PSP, ASP, and LPT
- Comparative exercises (EC) for the detection of emerging toxins
Provide scientific and technical assistance to the NRLs, as follows:
- Support NRLs in the implementation, validation, and accreditation of EU reference methods for marine biotoxin analysis
- Monitor the work programs of the NRLs
- Coordinate expert working groups among the EU NRLs
- Coordinate expert working groups related to the classification and monitoring of bivalve mollusc production areas among the EU NRLs
- Training activities
- Organization of workshops and meetings
Provide scientific and technical assistance to the European Commission, other organizations, and third countries within its mandate, including training activities.
