Nutrition/NAOS Convention

1st NAOS Convention 2007

1st NAOS Convention 2007

To coincide with the second anniversary of the launch of the NAOS Strategy, the 1st NAOS Convention was held in Madrid on 27 and 28 March 2007. The event brought together national and international experts on obesity prevention.

One of the most significant aspects of the Convention is that it was the first meeting between all sectors involved in the development of the NAOS Strategy. Experts shared experiences and exchanged perspectives on the development of different programmes and actions to be launched in the future to fight obesity, a disease considered by the World Health Organization to be “the epidemic of the 21st Century”. Spain has one of the highest childhood obesity rates in Europe.
The Minister Elena Salgado, who opened the Convention, declared that the NAOS Strategy “has been consolidated as a leading model at the national and international levels; the awards received and its influence on other programmes are testament to this.”
