Nutrient profiles

In order to ensure the protection of consumers, and that the consumer chooses the most healthy option from among the different foods on the market, Regulation No 1924/2006 also lays down the conditions to be met in order to make these nutrition and health claims about the food.

Article 4 of the Regulation establishes that one of the requirements for the use of nutrition and health claims on foods, is that the claims comply with the nutrient profiles adopted by the Commission.
In setting the nutrient profiles, the Commission followed the opinion issued by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), which can be consulted on the EFSA web page or directly via the link below:

EFSA: The setting of nutrient profiles for foods bearing nutrition and health claims pursuant to Article 4 of the Regulation (EC) No 1924/2006 - Scientific Opinion of the Panel on Dietetic Products, Nutrition and Allergies

We also offer the latest version of the working document on the setting of nutrient profiles (13 February 2009), drafted by the Commission on the basis of the above EFSA opinion, and following consultation of all the stakeholders.
