Genetically modified food
Although the procedure for the authorisation of genetically modified food and feed is single and centralised at European level, the area concerning environmental aspects and animal food (feed) is not the competence of this agency.
According to the definitions established in Article 2 of Regulation (EC) No 1829/2003 of the European Parliament and of the Council, of 22 September 2003, on genetically modified food and feed:
Genetically Modified Foods are those containing or which are composed of GMO or have been produced from them.
Genetically modified organism (GMO) intended for human consumption, means a GMO that may be used as food or source material for the production of food.
