ENALIA Survey. National Dietary Survey on the Child and Adolescent Population

Introduction

This is a dietary survey which includes the population of children and adolescents aged between 6 months and 17 years old from all the Autonomous Regions. This is an individual survey that provides precise information about the types and quantities of food consumed, which is essential for assessing nutrient intake and for scientific research into exposure to other chemical substances through food.

ENALIA was developed by the Spanish Agency for Consumer Affairs, Food Safety and Nutrition between November 2012 and November 2015, within the European framework and co-financed by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA).

The whole of the survey, right from the moment of design, is conducted in accordance with a harmonised methodology agreed throughout Europe, listed in the guide “General principles for the collection of national food consumption data in the view of a pan-European dietary survey”, published by the EFSA in 2009 http://www.efsa.europa.eu/en/scdocs/doc/1435.pdf). It was included in the European EU Menu project, which aims to harmonise data collection on food consumption in the European framework.

At national level, ENALIA provides useful data for the analysis of food risks and for nutritional studies. It may also be used to make dietary recommendations for the more vulnerable population groups, such as children.
