María del Puy Portillo Baquedano

 

PhD and Graduate in Pharmacy from the University of Navarra. Full Professor of the Department of Nutrition of the University of the Basque Country and lead researcher of the research group Nutrition and Obesity. Coordinator of the degree programme Human Nutrition and Dietetics; Director of the post-graduate degree programme on Nutrition and Health; and the representative of the University of the Basque Country for the Inter-University PhD Programme of Nutrigenomics and Personalised Nutrition.

She has participated in 45 projects and has been the lead researcher in 30 of them. She has published 171 articles in international journals and 24 books or book chapters. She has supervised 14 PhD theses.

Her main line of research focuses on the study of the beneficial effects of the bioactive components of foods in obesity and some of its comorbidities such as insulin resistance and fatty liver.

Outside the University, she has been the spokesperson of the Area of Food Technology of the ANEP from 2012 to 2018. She has been a member of the expert group that drafted the Healthy Eating Plan of the Basque Government, she is an Honorary Academician of the Spanish Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and President of the Spanish Society for Nutrition (SEÑ).
