Ángel Gil Izquierdo

 

PhD in Food Science and Technology, Graduate in Food Science and Technology, and in Chemistry. Scientific Researcher of the Centre of Soil Science and Applied Biology of El Segura (CEBAS, Murcia) of CSIC. He participates or has participated in working groups to draft scientific opinions for the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA, 2009-2012) and the French National Agency for Health, Food, Environmental and Work Safety (ANSES, 2015-2018, 12 Julio 2022-present (mandate next 4 years)).

His main lines of research are related to the effect of plant bioactive compounds on health (polyphenols and lipid-derived compounds), including the development of analytical techniques for detection, the study of their bioavailability, metabolism and absorption, and studies of nutritional profiles of foods and biological activity in cell cultures, and clinical-nutritional assays. He has been an EFSA expert until 2012 in the working group on risk assessment, and an ANSES expert until 2018, within the group for the assessment of substances and processes subject to authorisation for human consumption, participating in scientific opinions on new food technology processes, nanomaterials and food contact materials, and technological ingredients in foods, among other topics. The group assessed the presence of these substances, the technological processes, risk and exposure, toxicology, food transfer, and analytical methods and processes.

He has participated/led 40 regional, national and European projects, 54 development and innovation contracts with the private sector, and a national patent. He has published over 200 scientific articles in international JCR journals (index h 50, Scopus), 20 book chapters in the field of nutrition and its links to health, and food science and technology. He has also supervised 10 PhD theses. He has been a researcher at Bonn University (Germany), at INRA (Theix, Clermont-Ferrand, France) and the University of Skopje (Macedonia) as well as a lecturer at the Lasallista University Corporation (Medellín, Colombia). He is Corresponding Academician of the Santa María de España Academy of Pharmacy in Murcia and of the Royal Academy of Medicine and Surgery of Murcia.
