Carlos Manuel Franco Abuín

 

Graduate in Veterinary Medicine and PhD from the University of Santiago de Compostela. Full Professor and Director of the Department of Analytical Chemistry, Nutrition and Bromatology. He is a member of the Executive Board of the Academy of Veterinary Sciences of Galicia.

He has supervised 14 PhD theses, published over 110 articles in indexed international journals, as well as several books and book chapters on research and teaching, as well as conference papers. He has participated in multiple research projects, at the national and provincial level, as well as in contracts with businesses and public administrations.

His lines of research focus on the detection and determination of pathogenic bacteria in foods, enhancing analytical technology to detect mycotoxins and residue in foods of animal origin. He is also currently researching the use of new molecular strategies to detect contaminants and substances arising from their use in animal production, and the characterisation of the mechanism of biofilm formation.

He is a member of the Editorial Boards of the journals “Food Control”, “Current Pharmaceutical Biotechnology” and “Antibiotics”.
