On 11 March 2026, the “Conference on Food Safety and Social Aspects” was held at the University of La Laguna, in San Cristóbal de La Laguna.

During this Conference, seven reports from the AESAN Scientific Committee were presented on topics related to food safety and social aspects, as well as two international cooperation projects.

In addition, a roundtable was held, moderated by Vicente Calderón, Head of the Risk Assessment Area and Technical Secretary of the Scientific Committee, with the participation of: Irene Bretón, physician in the Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics Unit at General University Hospital Gregorio Marañón in Madrid and member of the Scientific Committee; Patricia Bezunartea, Director General for Family Diversity and Social Services at the Ministry of Social Rights, Consumer Affairs and the 2030 Agenda; Ramón Jané, Director of the Social Inclusion Knowledge Area at the Spanish Red Cross; and Marta Ausín, president of the Association of People Affected by Hereditary Fructose Intolerance (AAIHF).

This roundtable addressed, from an integrative perspective, key topics related to food safety and certain social aspects, such as: scientific rigor in food risk assessment, the creation of public policies aimed at protecting the health of consumers, the correct application of these measures, and the incorporation of the voices of vulnerable groups to whom these policies are directed.
