Description:

Founded by Dr Ángel Gil Hernández in 1996 and is currently made up of 14 people. Its members are dedicated to both teaching and research, and the latter is carried out at the Institute of Nutrition and Food Technology "José Mataix Verdú", located in the Biomedical Research Centre of the Health Sciences Technological Park of Granada. Furthermore, the group is part of the CIBER Pathophysiology of Obesity and Nutrition (CIBERobn), a network of biomedical research centres funded by the Carlos III Health Institute and the Biosanitary Institute of Granada-IBS.

Teaching:

Attached to the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology 2 at the University of Granada, the members of the group teach in the Degrees of Pharmacy, Human Nutrition and Dietetics and Food Science and Technology. As well as in the Master's Degree in Human Nutrition and the Master's Degree in Genetic, Nutritional and Environmental Conditioning of Growth and Development at the University of Granada.

Research:

Our lines of research are as follows:

  • 1. Childhood obesity line, study of its comorbidities and genetic and epigenetic causes together with the exposome.
  • 2. Probiotics and intestinal microbiota line.
  • 3. Clinical and experimental evaluation line.

Services:

Analysis of omics data (epigenome, metabolome, genome, and metagenome).

Development of risk prediction algorithms and biomarkers by artificial intelligence.

Advice on new ingredients and functional foods.

Food consumption surveys in different population groups.
