9th NAOS Convention 2015
PRESENTATIONS OF CONTRIBUTIONS
The 9th NAOS Convention and the 8th NAOS Strategy Award Ceremony 2014 were held on 6 October in the Ernest Lluch conference hall of the Ministry of Health, Social Services and Equality.
2015 was the 10th anniversary of the NAOS Strategy, launched in 2005 as a health strategy to promote healthy diet and physical activity in all sectors of society with the aim of preventing obesity. To celebrate this, three scientific sessions were arranged, featuring internationally renowned Spanish nutrition and/or physical activity experts as speakers and moderators; these included professionals from the Universities of Barcelona, Castilla-La-Mancha, Granada, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Navarra, Zaragoza and CEU San Pablo. There were also international speakers, including Dr Renata Micha from Tufts University, Boston; Dr Michele Cecchini from the OECD; Dr Tim Lobstein, from the World Obesity Federation; and Dr Joao Breda, from the World Health Organization Regional Office for Europe.
Throughout the day, there were presentations and debates about present actions lines and policies and the future outlook for preventing obesity and avoiding inequality. There was also discussion of the most effective approach to obesity based on the scientific evidence available up to the time, through healthy diet and daily physical activity.
During the 9th NAOS Convention, trophies and certificates for the 8th NAOS AWARDS 2014 were awarded by the Ministry of Health, Social Services and Equality. Awards were given for initiatives promoting healthy diet and physical activity within the NAOS Strategy framework.
On this occasion, being the 10th anniversary of the Strategy, two Special Recognition awards were given: one for promoting the field of nutrition and/or food, awarded to the PREDIMED (Prevention with the Mediterranean Diet) study; and another for promoting sport and/or physical activity, awarded to the Paralympic athlete and medallist Teresa Perales.
