Duties

 

Duties assigned to the Observatory

  • To collect information on the population’s food and exercise habits, organised by age and socioeconomic group.
  • To collect information on the prevalence of overweight and obesity and their determinants.
  • To monitor and assess the measures and interventions included in the Strategy for nutrition, physical activity and the prevention of obesity (NAOS), defined in article 36.
  • To analyse other policies and actions to be carried out at the international, national, regional and local levels to promote healthy diet and physical activity, emphasising and disseminating those actions that prove to have had the greatest effectiveness and health impact.
  • To collect and analyse data and information about food advertising broadcast by the different communication systems and media, with special attention to advertising targeting minors.
  • To prepare and promote the studies and research projects necessary to improve the effectiveness of nutrition policy design and development.
  • To prepare an annual report including monitoring and evaluation of the NAOS Strategy, with recommendations on aspects to revise.
