Cleanliness

  • Always wash hands before preparing food and several times during the preparation.
  • Always wash hands after going to the bathroom.
  • Carefully wash all work surfaces and tools used in the preparation of the food.

Protect food and the kitchen from insects, pets and other animals (keep food in closed containers).

Separate raw food from cooked food

  • Always separate raw food from cooked and ready-to-eat food.
  • Do not use the same utensils, including knives and chopping boards to handle raw food, such as fish, meat or chicken and for food that has already been cooked.
  • Keep the food in separate containers to prevent contact between raw and cooked food.

Cook, stew, roast or fry thoroughly

  • When cooking, make sure that food is not raw in the interior, especially meat, chicken, eggs and fish.
  • Make sure that soups and stews come to boil.
  • Reheat cooked food thoroughly.

Store food at safe temperatures

  • Do not leave cooked food at room temperature. Store cooked and perishable food in the fridge as soon as possible, preferably at temperatures below 5 °C.
  • Keep food that is already cooked that is to be eaten hot at temperatures of above 60 °C.
  • Do not store food for a long time, even in the freezer. Food intended for children must be eaten as soon as it is prepared.
  • Do not defrost food at room temperature but rather in the lower part of the fridge.

Use safe food and water

  • Use drinking water.
  • Select healthy fresh food.
  • Do not drink unprocessed milk, i.e. milk which has not been pasteurised or sterilised.
  • Wash fruit and vegetables, especially if eaten raw.
  • Do not food after their best before date.
