Teresa Robledo, Executive Director of AECOSAN (Spanish Agency for Consumer Affairs, Food Safety and Nutrition) opened the Reference Conferences 2017 held at the CNA (National Food Centre).
At the opening table, Ms Robledo was accompanied by Victorio Teruel, Deputy-director General for Food Safety Promotion, Paloma Cervera Lucini, Director of the National Food Centre and Joaquín Berenguer Soler, Deputy-director of the Centre.
The Executive Director welcomed the participants who numbered more than 250 professionals from 55 laboratories designated for official control, competent authorities from all the Autonomous Communities, National Reference Laboratories, private organisations, Federation of Food and Drink Industries (FIAB), and the National Accreditation Body among others.
The objective of the conferences is to share the new tendencies in official control, methods of analysis, risk assessment and, in short, food safety promotion. The National Food Centre, as a National Reference Laboratory, offers all the official control laboratories its knowledge and experience with full transparency so that the official control is more effective.
At the CNA facilities, work is conducted in a diverse range of areas including veterinary drug residues, toxins, microbiology, migration of food contact materials, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, dioxins, genetically modified organisms and allergens.
The official control laboratories have a key role in the improvement of food safety. The testing is the basis for the majority of the control measures of the competent authorities.
