Healthy lifestyles were the focus of the eighteenth edition of the “Francisco Grande Covián” School at the Menéndez Pelayo International University (UIMP)
Healthy lifestyles are “a tool for preventing overweight and obesity”. These were the words of Gregorio A. Alegre, secretary-general of the Danone Institute, at the opening of the 18th School of Nutrition «Francisco Grande Covián». Healthy lifestyles, held this week as part of the Advanced Summer Courses organised by the Menéndez Pelayo International University (UIMP).
Accompanied by Teresa Robledo de Dios, Executive Director of the Spanish Agency for Consumer Affairs, Food Safety and Nutrition (AECOSAN), César Nombela, dean of the UIMP, and Luis A. Moreno, president of the Danone Institute, Alegre recalled that a healthy diet and physical exercise are habits which should be adopted on a daily basis, and he placed special emphasis on the importance of breakfast: “It is important to underline that a lack of breakfast or a poor breakfast is one of the risk factors associated with obesity in children”, he declared.
The secretary general of the Danone Institute reflected that the institution invested 200 million Euros in research and development around the world, nine of these in Spain, under the thought: “Every time we eat we choose the planet we want. This is why we want to lead the way in the goal to offer health to the people in a way which protects the planet”, he concluded.
Teresa Robledo emphasised that AECOSAN, which was created in 2014 following the merge of the National Institute for Consumer Affairs and the Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition, has three essential objectives: “To work for the protection and promotion of consumer rights, to promote food safety as a fundamental aspect of public health, and to promote information, training and education for health in the area of nutrition with special attention on the prevention of obesity”.
