The aim of the initiative is to make young people and parents more aware of internet security and privacy.
The Spanish Agency for Consumer Affairs, Food Safety and Nutrition has collaborated with the competition ‘Ellos te enseñan’, set up by the Consumers' and Users' Council (OCU) with the support of Google. The aim of the initiative is to actively make students, parents and teachers aware of the importance of encouraging internet security and privacy. The Spanish Agency for the Protection of Data (AEPD, the National Cybersecurity Institute (INCIBE) and the Spanish Confederation of Parents' Associations (CEAPA) have also collaborated with the competition.
The competition asks students at secondary school (ESO) and in the first year of Professional Training courses (FP), with the help of their teachers and using the information and materials available on the Web Vive un internet seguro (For a safer Internet), to submit a creative work in the form of a set of rules directed at parents. These rules will explain, using photographs, essays, videos and computer graphics, how to browse Internet in safety. The supporting materials provided by the AEPD for participants in the competition include the guides No te enredes en internet(Don't get tangled up in Internet) and Sé legal(Be legal), in addition to a comic and fact sheets.
The work submitted by the students through the schools (this may be individual or in teams of up to three) must demonstrate that the students have adequate knowledge regarding an appropriate, responsible and positive use of the Internet, while also helping parents to learn more about those practices which help to improve the protection of minors and their privacy.
The deadline for the submission of projects is 16 March. All the necessary information is available on the competition invitation.
On completion of this deadline, the jury, consisting of representatives from the collaborating institutions, will select a total of three finalists based on the originality and educational potential of the work. These finalists will be eligible for the awards which will be given in May.
