Board of Consumers and Users Conference
Date: 14 marzo 2017
Section: Consumo
This interesting conference organised by the Board of Consumers and Users (CCU), at the conference hall in the Ministry of Health, Social Services and Equality in Madrid took place today.
The Executive Director of AECOSAN, Teresa Robledo opened the conference, thanking the CCU for organising this initiative to celebrate World Consumer Rights Day which is held on 15 March.
Ms Robledo recalled the role of AECOSAN in setting up initiatives and commitments in response to the principal objectives of the Agency, in which the promotion and development of consumer and user rights remains crucial. In fact, in the consumer world, significant legislative changes with a positive effect on these rights have already been made.
The Constitution itself envisages the right of consumers to organise themselves in defence of their rights, and commands public powers and the Government to promote and listen to these structures which will serve to guarantee the defence of consumer and user rights.
The keystone focusses on consumers, on all citizens considered as individuals in our society. On this basis, there is one aspect which must be considered. This is that in a society of increasing progress, it is essential that Consumer Associations play a role which adapts to the new changes of our Society.
Since 1991, the Board of Consumers and Users, the representative and advisory body at national level of the most representative consumer associations, has been working on the defence of consumer and user interests, influencing the decisions taken regarding consumer affairs adopted by the public powers.
For more than 25 years it has been giving voice and democratically participating in Public Administration decisions through its representative organisations.
The president, Manuela López Besteiro, closed the Conference, thanking those present for their participation, reflecting that attendance had been high, many ideas exchanged and the paper presented by Diego Antoñanzas on the challenges faced by consumers in the age of Digital Transformation had led to much debate.
During her speech, the President of the CCU declared that we must look to the future to determine what new difficulties may appear in order to resolve them using appropriate measures, ensuring that the decisions taken are more and more informed and protected decisions.
The President highlighted that the Board wished to contribute, as usual, to the celebration of WORLD CONSUMER DAY, with certain significant contributions and tools among the multiple and complex concerns faced by Consumer Associations today, which are a true reflection of the concerns and difficulties of all citizens.
Consumers have faced many difficulties in the first quarter of this century. However, it must be said, there have also been many achievements in the defence of individual and collective consumer rights.
The conference was coordinated by Dolores Flores, Secretary for the Board of Consumers and Users.
