Teresa Teresa Robledo opens the 14th Edition of the COLVEMA Masters in Food Safety

Yesterday was the official opening of the 14th Edition of the Masters in Food Safety organised by the Veterinary School of Madrid, with the participation of the Board of Health for the Community of Madrid, the Spanish Agency for Consumer Affairs, Food Safety and Nutrition (AECOSAN), the Faculty of Veterinary Science of the Complutense University in Madrid and the General Council of Official Veterinarians’ Associations in Spain.

The president of the COVM and Director of the Masters, Felipe Vilas gave thanks for the support of the institutions and their participation to the 20 sponsors and 40 businesses, leaders in the food sector, who enable the Masters to assume a practical nature, allowing the students to be in contact with the true working conditions of the sector.

Manuela Fernández, Vice-dean of Postgraduate Studies and Academic Planning at the Faculty of Veterinary Science of the Complutense University in Madrid, researcher in the areas of technology and food safety, declared that the Masters offers a complete training and supposed a firm first step in the professional career, but reminded students that it is necessary to continuously remain up-to-date.

Next, Ana Pérez, Vice-president of the Veterinary School of Madrid, head of training and lecturer on the MSA, emphasised the integral and integrated training offered, which promotes an interactive relation between students and teachers.

Juan Martínez, Director General of Public Health for the Board of Health of the Community of Madrid addressed the students as the future professionals who will help to guarantee food safety thanks to the training they would receive from an academic elite.

In the final speech, the Executive Director of the Spanish Agency for Consumer Affairs, Food Safety and Nutrition praised the solid and comprehensive training provided by this Masters, which is why AECOSAN has collaborated since the beginning.

Teresa Robledo, before officially declaring this edition open, explained that the European and Spanish food safety system is solid and safe, but it is necessary to continue working in a globalised and changing world, with new situations and food crises arising continuously. It is the task of AECOSAN to protect the health of the population by guaranteeing food safety, also highlighting that training is a key factor of AECOSAN and that is why we collaborate with this Masters which reflects the multidisciplinary nature of food safety and we believe it is opening a door to a working future for students.
