This is a project which is cofinanced by the European Union and the Spanish Agency for Consumer Affairs, Food Safety and Nutrition (AECOSAN).

  • The Web permits access to the ODR (Online Dispute Resolution) platform, a tool developed by the European Commission for the online resolution of disputes
  • The objective is to resolve doubts in a clear and useful manner and to help consumers and traders to solve disputes relating to the purchase of products and services

The Spanish Agency for Consumer Affairs, Food Safety and Nutrition, belonging to the Ministry of Health, Social Services and Equality today launched the new Web page for the European Consumer Centre. The public will have a new platform for the defence of their rights as consumers with free and personalised information.

The European Consumer Centre Web page which was launched today is intended to offer consumers information about their rights when purchasing or contracting goods and services, whether face-to-face or online.

What to do if your journey has been cancelled? What is an unfair trading practice? What should I do if I want to transfer an account from one bank to another? How can I avoid unwanted advertising? These are just some of the many questions for which the Web page tries to provide a clear and useful answer to the consumer.

In addition to informing consumers and advising those who feel their rights have not been observed, the Web contains information about the different options for submitting a claim and the competent organisations in each case.

Claims may be sent via the new Web addressed to the European Consumer Centre in Spain (ECC Spain), which is responsible for assessing whether your rights as a consumer have been violated, and offers information, legal advice and personalised aid, free of charge.

It also permits access to the ODR (Online Dispute Resolution) Platform; a tool developed by the European Commission for the online resolution of disputes, intended to help consumers and traders to resolve disputes relating to the purchase of products and services contracted online. Similarly, it enables access to the European small claims court; a legal system designed to simplify and speed up cross-border claims of up to €5000.

THE EUROPEAN CONSUMER CENTRE IN SPAIN

The European Consumer Centre in Spain is a project which is cofinanced by the European Union and the Spanish Agency for Consumer Affairs, Food Safety and Nutrition (AECOSAN). It forms part of the ECC-Net (European Consumer Centre-Network) consisting of a total of 30 European Consumer Centres from each of the 28 EU member States, Norway and Iceland.

Since their creation in 2005, each of these centres offers free personalised information, assistance and advice to national consumers who have experienced problems with transactions carried out in another country of the ECC-Net. In these cases, ECC Spain can mediate acting on your behalf when you have submitted a claim against a company and have not obtained a satisfactory solution. It will process your claim with the collaboration of other European Centres, aiming to reach an amicable solution between the parties and providing all the information in your own language.

The objective is to help citizens be aware of their rights as consumers and to enjoy all the benefits of a single market in an environment in which cultural diversity and the legal differences in Europe may lead to situations which are complex to resolve when shopping abroad.
