5th NAOS Strategy Awards – 2011

The panel met on 28 March 2012, at the Madrid headquarters of the Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition (AESAN) to judge the 5th NAOS Strategy Awards – 2011 Edition.

In 2011, a total of 106 projects were put forward and pre-assessed by AESAN. Pre-assessment is based on the requirements of the call for applications and the general assessment criteria for the awards, established by the Resolution of 6 July 2011 of the Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition, opening the application period for the 2011 edition of the NAOS Strategy Awards. Following pre-assessment, 32 finalist projects were selected for presentation to the awarding panel.  

The Panel finally met on 28 March 2012, ruling to name the following projects as winners and runners up:

NAOS STRATEGY AWARD FOR THE PROMOTION OF HEALTHY DIET IN THE FAMILY AND COMMUNITY SETTING:

  • AWARD:
    “Integrated plan for the promotion of healthy diet and physical activity in the municipality of Murcia 2008–2012. Development strategies for the family and community setting”
    by the Municipal Health Services of the Social Wellbeing and Health Department, Murcia City Council.
  • 1ST RUNNER UP:
    “Alimerka Foundation Food School Project: Good to eat, good to think” by the Alimerka Foundation of Asturias.
  • 2ND RUNNER UP:
    “Programme for promoting healthy diet and overweight and obesity control among the young and adult population in the municipality of Tineo” by the Tineo Town Council (Asturias).

NAOS STRATEGY AWARD FOR THE PROMOTION OF PHYSICAL EXERCISE IN THE FAMILY AND COMMUNITY SETTING:

  • AWARD:
    “Intergenerational Municipal Programme: Health Promotion in the development of physical exercise activities in leisure areas of beaches in the municipality of Valencia"
    by Valencia City Council.
  • 1ST RUNNER UP:
    “Catalogue of sports spaces in Utebo” project by the Sports Department of Utebo Town Council.
  • 2ND RUNNER UP:
    “Stairs for Health” project by the Bahía de Cádiz–La Janda Health District.

NAOS STRATEGY AWARD FOR THE PROMOTION OF HEALTHY DIET IN THE SCHOOL SETTING:

  • AWARD:
    “Participatory project for health education in the face of obesity in children and youths in Extremadura” by the Department of Health Education. Directorate-General of Public Health. Extremadura Regional Ministry of Health and Social Policy. Extremadura Health Service.
  • 1ST RUNNER UP:
    “We eat more fruit at school. School fruit plan” by the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food and the Environment. Regional government of Catalonia.
  • 2ND RUNNER UP:
    “Eating disorders with shadow theatre. Talía Group” by IES Carlos Casares secondary school, Vigo (Pontevedra).

NAOS STRATEGY AWARD FOR THE PROMOTION OF PHYSICAL EXERCISE IN THE SCHOOL SETTING:

  • AWARD :
    “DANONE Sports Schools” by DANONE.
  • 1ST RUNNER UP:
    “Health and Physical Activity Promotion Working Group” project by the Health and Physical Activity Promotion Working Group. Jerez de los Caballeros (Badajoz).
  • 2ND RUNNER UP:
    “Bikes in the Classroom – Pedal at School” by the Bikes in the Classroom Education Project, Huesca (Aragon).

NAOS STRATEGY AWARD FOR THE HEALTHCARE SYSTEM.

  • AWARD:
    “Weight loss in children with overweight and obesity as a consequence of an intervention based on Vigorous Physical Activity (VPA): effects on body composition, appetite and spontaneous physical activity” by the University of Castilla-La Mancha.
  • 1ST RUNNER UP:
    “Integrated support programme for excess weight and sedentary lifestyles”. Healthy Lifestyles School Department” by Valdepasillas Health Centre (Badajoz).
  • 2ND RUNNER UP:
    “DRACHS Programme: Programme aimed at encouraging the reorientation, acquisition and consolidation of healthy habits” by the Mútua Terrassa University Hospital (Barcelona).

NAOS STRATEGY AWARD FOR THE WORKPLACE:

None awarded: no projects were presented.

NAOS STRATEGY BUSINESS INITIATIVE AWARD:

  • AWARD:
    “CAPSA, thinking about your health”
    by Corporación Alimentaria Peñasanta S.A. (CAPSA).
  • 1ST RUNNER UP:
    “Nutrition Enhancement Programme (NEP)” by Unilever Spain.
  • 2ND RUNNER UP:
    “Reduction of salt content in Eroski products” by Eroski Group.

NAOS STRATEGY SPECIAL RECOGNITION AWARD: 
Dr Manuel Serrano Ríos for his long and distinguished professional career in nutrition and the study of obesity.
